Kotilingeshwara Temple

Kotilingeshwara Temple is a temple in the village of Kammasandra in Kolar district, Karnataka, India.The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and living by its name, the temple actually houses more than one crore Shiva lingas. First Shiv-linga was installed on 10 Oct 1980. The tallest Shiv-linga in the Kotilingeshwara temple is 108 feet which is considered to be one of the highest in the world. Besided that there is a Nandi statue is of 35 Feet high.

Within the premises of the Kotilingeshwara temple, there are about eleven other temples for different deities. The temples include Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple, Goddess Karumaari Amma Temple, Lord Venkataramani Swamy Temple, Lord Panduranga Swamy Temple, Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana Temple, Lord Panchamukha Ganapathy Temple, Lord Anjaneya Temple, and finally Goddess Kannika Parameshwari Temple.

Kotilingeshwara temple has no links to any mythological history. It is a recent addition from the local ‘Gurus’ who have made a stellar effort to generate Bhakti by going in for huge sizes of Shiva Lingas as also a great numbers of them inspiring awe in the visitors. What is note worthy is the systematic way they have gone about in achieving the same. The lay out of the Linga’s are well planned with a number of various Gods enshrined in small temples inside right from Lord Manjunatha ( having the first Linga there) to Kubera Venkataramana and also Santoshi Mata.

Main festival celebrated in Kotilingeshwara temple is Shivratri. There will be heavy crowd during Shivratri days.
